With the hot weather at the moment, it’s no surprise that I’m thinking of salads at the moment. Here is  one of my favourites!

Asparagus, mint & wild rice salad with a walnut dressing (Catherine Fulvio)

Ingredients:

1 onion, finely sliced

250g cooked wild rice

12 asparagus spears, cooked and sliced i ntow

60g soya beans, blanched

5 sprigs mint

For the dressing:

1/2 chilli, finely sliced lengthways

4tbsp walnut oil

handful chopped walnuts

1 lemon, zest & juice

1 tbsp capers

Salt and freshly ground pepper

Instructions

1. To make dressing, warm walnut oil and add chilli, lemon zest and juice and capers.

2. Heat some olive oil  and saute the onion until soft (5-7 minutes).

3. Combine onion, rice , aspargus, beands and mint in a mixing bowl. Add dressing and allow to infuse for about 10 mins

4. Sprinkle with chopped walnuts

Moi Contre La Vie

The time has finally come and Spring is upon us and it’s time, ladies and gentlemen, to rearrange your closets so that your warm weather clothes are more easily accessible. Spring and Fall are my favorite, I love the transitioning seasons when it’s slightly warm but still crisp and the skies are bright blue and cloudless. I adore going for walks at night when it’s still light out, going  to the Farmer’s Market and making huge, brightly colored salads, and of course, bearing some skin after months of being hiding under layers and layers of fabric.

So what’s on tap for Spring? As usual every magazine and fashion blog has a helpful list of what the New York, London, Milan and Paris collections showed for Spring 2012 – Fashionologie, Vogue, Harper’s BazaarElle to name a few. Live to Write - Write to Live

“I was going to write the next great, American novel; but life got in the way.”

Though it is the source of all our experience and inspiration, there are days when “life” can be one hell of a nuisance to a writer. Life doesn’t care that we just had a breakthrough on the blog post/essay/article/poem/novel we’re working on. There are still kids to be picked up, work deadlines to be met, laundry to be done, and bills to pay. (Oh, the bills!) There are family and social obligations, housework, homework, and busy work. There is no question that “life” can block our ability to write. Not only does it sop up precious keyboard time, it drains us of the energy we need to summon our inner muse and create.
 
Too tired? Too busy? Too bad. 

The reality of life is a particularly tricky piece of the writer’s block puzzle…
